Sinus Lift
Periodontal Care
About This Service
For patients missing upper back teeth, a sinus lift may be part of preparing for dental implants. South Bay Dental Surgery Center uses imaging-based planning to evaluate bone height, sinus position, and whether sinus augmentation is needed before implant placement.
A sinus lift, also called sinus augmentation, is a specialized grafting procedure for the upper back jaw. After upper molars are lost, the bone can shrink and the sinus can sit close to the implant site. A sinus lift gently creates space for grafting material so there can be enough bone height to support a future implant.
Why the sinus matters for implants
The maxillary sinuses sit above the upper back teeth. If there is not enough bone between the mouth and sinus, an implant may not have the support it needs. Imaging helps show whether a sinus lift is needed.
How it fits into implant planning
A sinus lift may be performed before implant placement or, in select cases, at the same time. The timing depends on available bone, sinus anatomy, grafting needs, and the stability required for the implant.
The Process
3D Imaging Review
We evaluate bone height, sinus position, nearby anatomy, and the future implant site.
Grafting Plan
We explain whether the sinus lift should happen before implant placement or as part of the implant procedure.
Sinus Augmentation
The sinus membrane is carefully lifted and grafting material is placed to support new bone formation.
Implant Timing
After healing, the implant plan is finalized or completed based on bone maturity and case needs.
Common Questions
If another dentist has mentioned a sinus lift or limited upper-jaw bone, our Torrance team can review the site and explain the timing in plain language.
